Approach to trauma work is often within a Transactional Analysis framework which is informed by psychoanalytic, developmental, relational and existential theories and processes. Frequently other aspects of various theories and approaches, such as Gestalt psychotherapy and creative therapies are integrated into the work depending on the individual.

The therapeutic alliance, somatosensory approaches, as well as neurosciences, underpin considerations for pacing the work which is largely client led.
