Work History
Sarah is an experienced and qualified Clinical Psychologist who has been working in private practice in Dunedin since 2012. Prior to this she worked in the UK as a Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychologist for 8 years.
In private practice she has specialised in working with young adults, adolescents and children with a range of emotional and psychological difficulties. Her clinical work has involved assessment and intervention of a wide range of difficulties including, anxiety, mood, eating and body image, self-harm, substance misuse, trauma, stress, health and relationship difficulties. In private practice Sarah has strong working relationships with various organisations, including Otago University Student Health, ACC funded organisations, and schools within the local area.
Previous work history has included working in a range of different fields; Paediatric Inpatient and Outpatients, Child and Adolescent HIV, Child Neuropsychology, Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Paediatric Haematology and Sickle Cell, Acute Trauma, Adult Learning Difficulties, Corrections, Adult and Older Adult Neuropsychology, and Inpatient Mental Health.
Experience
Sarah has a wealth of experience across different domains within Clinical Psychology. She works primarily with young people from 12 - 35 years, however she also provides services to parents/caregivers, teachers and other adults outside of this age range. She has worked in the private and public sector in both New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Sarah has held senior roles that have included team management, supervision, consultation, and teaching.
Sarah has completed numerous courses and teaching programmes in her clinical career continually upskilling and building on her knowledge base. Sarah’s main areas of interest include: working with adolescent and young people who experience difficulties with anxiety (generalised, specific, OCD, social, health), PTSD/trauma, low mood/depression, eating disorders, relationship and other life difficulties, self-harm and suicidal behaviour, adjustment, and stress.
The main therapeutic models she uses in her clinical work are; Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused (SFT), and Mindfulness and Psycho-education.
