Profile
Abby has seen on numerous occasions the power of therapy to radically transform people’s lives for the better and it is this that motivates her practice – to achieve the best possible outcome so that clients can experience life in a deeper and more fulfilling way. In session clients will find her warm, genuinely interested and absolutely committed to the client and the work together.
Abby has been working as a therapist for over ten years. She is a neurodivergent transgender woman, an occasional writer and a mother of two kids.
Approach
The main methodology Abby practices is Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), an evidence-based practice that is designed to create long-term permanent change rather than simply short-term coping strategies, and to achieve that outcome in a relatively short time-frame. She has completed core and advanced training in this methodology which appealed to her because of its strong evidence base in neuroscience and attachment theory. She has a particular interest in working with issues around gender and sexuality, ADHD and autism-spectrum disorders, and problems arising from technology use and overuse including gaming, social media, and online radicalisation.
She has a strong personal belief in the value of joining empathy and compassion to critical-thinking and in-depth analysis, and believes it is crucial that she adapt her way of working to meet clients individual needs. She is committed to continuing to improve her practice through ongoing deliberate practice, training and supervision.
