Experience
Tina has been working therapeutically with children, adolescents, adults and families for over twenty-five years. She has been working in private practice since 2020. Her current work is mostly with children, adolescents and families, particularly those who have experienced sexual abuse and / or those who are struggling with their mental health. She is also a provider for Aoake-te-rā / Bereaved by suicide service. Tina has been supervising professionals for over fifteen years.
Prior to private practice Tina has worked in Christchurch at several Child and Adolescent Mental Health services, at the STOP programme for children and adolescents, at a high school, and at Christchurch Hospital. Alongside this work Tina has provided training in Family Therapy for Canterbury Family Therapy Associates and as a Clinical Lecturer with the University of Otago. In Melbourne Tina worked at an Adolescent Mental Health service while she was studying for a Master’s in Clinical Family Therapy. Approach
Tina provides a relaxed welcoming space and has a practical, down-to-earth approach. Each person can explore their concerns at their own pace. Her therapeutic approach is influenced by attachment and trauma research, ACT, EMDR, family therapy, narrative therapy, and dyadic developmental psychotherapy. Tina is trained in EMDR, which is an effective method of healing from trauma, managing triggers in the present and planning for the future.
Tina considers it important to understand people in their context – their personal self, their history, relationships, family, culture and community. She is passionate about enhancing personal wellbeing and strengthening relationships. People can talk through personal experiences, trauma, the effects on day-to-day life and find ways to heal and move forward positively. Children and adolescents can use engaging, interactive approaches to reduce the effects of serious issues. Families can explore problems, strengths and preferred ways of relating.
Tina sees individuals and families from all backgrounds and cultures. LGBTQI+ friendly.
