Ōtautahi Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Support Plan

The TSY class is an opportunity to practice new ways of being in a safe trauma informed space. When done with this intention we find participants get great benefit.

As part of our registration process into an ŌTSY 8 week block course, we now require a brief support plan ensuring we are working together to achieve the best possible outcomes for participants. The decision to attend the course is a therapeutic decision and co-creating a support plan with your therapist clarifies the suitability of the course and offers an opportunity to discuss any issues that may arise during the course. You may choose to share your support plan with the OTSY facilitator. Or consider that you or your therapist discuss anything relevant in the plan with the OTSY facilitator so they can best support you during the classes.

Therapeutic considerations before joining the class:

  • How to commit yourself to the course and be able to attend regularly

  • How to anchor into a sense of safety.

  • What to do if you feel triggered in class (abc plan)

  • How best to support yourself once you leave the class (post-yoga plan)

  • How to communicate your needs to the facilitators.

  • Clarity around what the ACC Therapist can communicate to TSY facilitators and vice versa.

Ōtautahi Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Support Plan

The Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TSY) class is an opportunity to practice new ways of being, in a safe trauma informed space.  When the class is done with this intention, we find participants benefit greatly.

As part of our registration process for enrolment into this block course, we require a brief support plan.

This is to ensure we are working together to achieve the best possible outcomes for participants.  The decision to attend the course is a therapeutic decision and co-creating a support plan clarifies the suitability of the course and offers an opportunity to discuss any issues that may arise during the course.

Therapeutic considerations for a client before joining the class.

  • How to commit yourself to the course and be able to attend regularly.

  • How to anchor into a sense of safety.

  • What to do if you feel triggered in class (your ‘ABC’ plan).

  • How best to support yourself once you leave the class (post-yoga plan).

  • How to communicate your needs to the facilitators.

  • Clarity around what the ACC Therapist can communicate to TSY facilitators and vice versa.

These are covered below, and allow space for you to comment on your client’s situation.

For You and Your Lead Provider to fill out Together

Dear Lead Provider,

Please make your client aware of the following from the ACC operational guidelines:

The yoga course is an 8-week block course and once enrolled we hold the space for the whole 8 weeks. ACC expects that clients are aware of the following “that if a client does not attend a session, it will be charged for and be deducted from their annual group work allocation (32 hours). Where a client actively disengages part-way through Group-based Therapy, the Group-based Therapy Provider will notify the Lead Provider as soon as practicable. Where this indicates the Client does not wish to proceed with the Group-based Therapy, the Lead Provider will notify ACC to close off the purchase order for that service item."

Engaging and disengaging from this course is a decision that requires therapeutic consideration, we therefore ask that when a client wishes to disengage, we will contact their lead provider and ask the lead provider to discuss this decision with the client within a therapeutic context. Then the therapists will need to send us a formal notice of disengagement and notify ACC of Purchase Order closure. Until we receive this notice missed sessions are billed for as per ACC guidelines.

Thank you from
