Work History
Martin has been in Private Practice in New Zealand since 1992. He provides an assessment and counselling service for adults facing issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, relationship or sexual problems, spiritual dilemmas, addiction, stress, sexual abuse and other trauma. He provides supervision to a variety of professionals and assists those dealing with redundancy or workplace restructuring.
Prior to Private Practice, Martin worked in England where he lived for 4 years. He held a position as a Senior Clinical Psychologist in a South London hospital.
His earlier experience in New Zealand was primarily with people who had addictions. He worked at Queen Mary Hospital, Hanmer Springs for 3 years providing individual, group and family therapy. He also work at the Salvation Army Bridge for 2 years.
At University he trained in both Behavioural and Cognitive Behavioural Therapies. Subsequently he has trained in Narrative Therapy and prefers this approach in practice.
Experience
Martin was on the Sexual Abuse Survivors Trust from 1993 to 2003. He also was on the Board of the Familial Trust from 2000 to 2008 (a service which provides support to family members of addicts.)
He has various contracts with organisations that provide EAP (Employee Assistance Programme). He has provided counselling for those affected by the Earthquake through Relationship Aotearoa. He assisted in the training of 2nd year counsellors at Laidlaw College for four years.
