Work History and Experience
Phoebe is both a registered counsellor and trauma sensitive yoga instructor. She works in private practice in Dunedin offering both modalities. Phoebe holds a passion for holistic health, and has been weaving somatic therapy and trauma sensitive yoga into mental health settings for a number of years. She has experience both as a counsellor and yoga instructor in child and adolescent counselling settings, tertiary institutions, drug and alcohol rehabilitation settings, and the prison system. Phoebe is consistently humbled to witness the power of restoring the ‘mind-body’ connection in the treatment of trauma. In fact without it, lasting healing cannot occur.
Phoebe provides 1:1 adjunctive trauma sensitive yoga sessions for ACC, both online and in-person. These sessions are facilitated in alignment with trauma informed principles, in which Phoebe practices the yoga along side the client, and emphasis is not on the external postures (and doing them right), but rather the internal experience of what they feel like. This style of yoga promotes choice, agency, and present moment body awareness. Participants are in control of their mind and bodies the entire time, and are welcome to skip postures, make adjustments, and take rests as needed. Phoebe enjoys teaching trauma sensitive yoga 1:1, as she is able to personalise the yoga program to meet the client's presentation and needs. In addition to Phoebe’s specialised 300-hr training in Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY), she draws on her 11+ years of extensive experience teaching Hatha yoga, meditation, and yoga nidra.
