Experience
Krystyna works as a counsellor and family therapist in private practice. Having worked in high schools as a teacher, a teacher trainer, and as a counsellor, Krystyna has experience working with individuals and families of all ages and stages, particularly at the adolescent phase. As she taught in the science field, she finds the mind and body fascinating so you might find her exploring her client’s body reactions and how to use that information in a therapeutic way. Krystyna has walked alongside parents as a Parenting Place and Triple P facilitator, helping them learn about the adolescent phase of life.
Her work in private practice includes clients who have been referred through Family Court, workplace support programs, and schools.
Krystyna supervises counsellors and other professionals.
Approach
Krystyna’s work is very collaborative - working closely alongside her clients to work out where they are at, exploring their uniqueness, their strengths, and where they would like to be. She believes clients are the experts in their lives, so spends time getting to know them, finding out what works for them and letting them set the pace.
Krystyna uses a variety of approaches depending on the client and their presenting issue. Her work is influenced by both systemic and strength-based approaches, such as Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative and the work of Bowen, the Gottman’s and Sue Johnson. Aspects of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Mindfulness are interwoven into sessions when they are useful.
