Work History and Experience
Fiona has 15 years of experience working in the field of health and wellbeing and mental health and addictions. She has a background in natural therapies which she incorporates into her counselling sessions to provide a holistic mind/body approach to wellbeing. She currently works as an addiction counsellor with both youth and adults and has over 10 years experience working within the addictions/mental health sector. She has worked in adult and youth residential settings and has been at the Christchurch City Mission providing individual counselling for 6 years.
Fiona’s approach is to be kind, gentle, calm and patient and to provide a trauma informed approach to create a safe and supportive environment for people as they journey through healing. Fiona uses many different therapeutic methods to create an approach that is right for her clients. Her work is informed by Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Person Centred Counselling, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Fiona is passionate about walking alongside her clients at their own pace as they begin the healing journey.
Fiona is experienced in working with issues that often present alongside addictive behaviour, anxiety, depression, PTSD, grief & loss, relationships & communication, self-harm and emotional dysregulation.
